Wheelchair user abused young girl
A 61-year-old wheelchair-bound man has pleaded guilty on the sexual abuse of a girl for two years during the 1980s in Galway.
Martin Davoren, from Cairealmore, Castlegar, appeared before Galway Circuit Criminal Court where he pleaded guilty to twelve sample charges of indecently assaulting the girl at a Co Galway location on various dates between September 1, 1986 and July 31, 1988.
Prosecuting barrister, Conor Fahy said the plea to the 12 sample charges was acceptable to the prosecution on the basis that facts in a further 14 charges of indecent assault were admitted.
Defence barrister, John Hogan, asked for sentence to be adjourned to July as he needed time to obtain relevant medical reports on his client.
Judge Rory McCabe remanded Davoren on continuing bail to July 10 for sentence and directed a victim impact statement to be prepared for the court on that date.
