West’s biggest ever auction takes place in May
More than €10 million worth of residential and commercial properties are set to go under the hammer in Galway next month in the biggest-ever auction to take place outside Dublin.
There are more than 70 properties in the catalogue for the all-day O’Donnellan & Joyce auction which will take place on May 4.
Auctioneer Colm O’Donnellan told the Connacht Tribune that the ‘Wild Atlantic Way’ auction will feature up to 30 properties in Galway City alone, as well as homes all along the western seaboard from Donegal to Kerry.
“It’s our biggest-ever auction and the biggest that has ever taken place in the West of Ireland, with over €10m worth of property.
“In this particular auction, we will have 30 properties in the city alone, as well as properties right up to Donegal and down to Kerry, in Sligo, Mayo, Athlone, Leitrim, Longford, Clare and Tipperary.
“In the city, we have some of the finest houses to come on the market in a long, long time in the most popular areas of Taylor’s Hill, Kingston Road, Canal Road, Presentation Road and Salthill, we have them all,” he said.
Mr O’Donnellan said the auction is again set to attract huge interest from buyers and investors from overseas.
“It’s something that we’ve seen a lot more of over the past two years, phone bidders who may be looking to come back home to Ireland or looking to invest here,” he said.
In the past, the all-day auctions have attracted online viewers and phone bidders from the UK and mainland Europe to as far afield as the US, Australia and the United Arab Emirates.
He added that auctions are increasingly becoming the selling choice for many vendors.
“Auctions are getting bigger. People see it as a better process; once the hammer falls, the deal is done,” said Mr O’Donnellan.
