Westdoc to decide on future of 15 nurses

Galway Bay fm newsroom – The Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation is demanding that laid-off practice nurses with Westdoc be returned to work.
The out-of-hours GP service is available to 180 thousand people in Galway, Mayo and Roscommon.
According to today’s Irish Times, Westdoc laid off 15 nurses in March after the INMO’s insurer withdrew personal liability cover for the nurses concerned.
The Union says it can’t get cover elsewhere at a reasonable cost with quotes above 2 thousand euro a year per nurse.
The INMO is calling on Westdoc to comply with a Labour Court recommendation by returning the nurses to the payroll.
The Court said the second option would be for Westdoc to decide it no longer intends to use the services of practice nurses and deal with the consequences.
The INMO is also seeking compensation for loss of earnings since the nurses were laid off.
