West North-West Hospital Group faces deficit of €54m
Galway Bay fm newsroom – The West/North-West Hospital Group has forecast a deficit of over 54 million euro for this year.
The shortfall is contained with the group’s service plan which shows an estimated expenditure for 2014 of over 647 million euro.
The report reveals a deficit of 19 million euro for the Galway University Hospital group which includes UHG and Merlin Park.
In Portiuncula, the deficit is estimated to be just over 10 million euro.
This is the first service plan published since the new hospital group was formed to include Letterkenny, Sligo and Mayo hospitals.
Chief Operating Officer Tony Canavan says income will be generated through collection from private health insurance companies in a bid to address the deficit.
