Galway Bay fm newsroom – Ambulance target times for responding to immediately life-threatening emergencies are still not being met in the West.

Figures provided to the Oireachtas Health Committee show that the ‘Echo’ target of just under 19 minutes was met in 60 percent of cases in the West – 10 percent below target.

The ECHO response target sets a guideline that 70 percent of all immediate emergencies are responded to in 18 minutes and 59 seconds.

The Delta response time sets a lower compliance target of 68 percent of cases being reached in 18 minutes and 59 seconds.

The Irish Independent reports that the West and Dublin are the two regions which failed to meet the Echo target while all regions failed to meet the Delta target.

The Health Minister has asked the Health Information and Quality Authority to expedite a review into ambulance services countrywide.
