West ‘come home’

WESTUNITED have returned to their traditional home in the ‘The Swamp’ at the weekend after being banished for 14 months because of the contamination scare at South Park.

Up to 200 people gathered on Sunday morning to witness the reappearance of boys in shorts on the seaside pitch in the Claddagh, which was a spirited contest ending in a drawbetween West and Salthill Devon.

South Parkwas closed to the public in September last year following the discovery that there were high levels of metals, lead, zinc, arsenic and copper in the soil, an apparent legacy of the city dump decades ago.
