Wellness trends set to dominate for 2022
Health, Beauty and Lifestyle with Denise McNamara
After almost two years of lockdowns, uncertainty, instability and stress, many of us will switch our focus to making 2022 as happy as possible. And that means turning our attention to health matters. An estimated 74% of adults stated they have felt more stressed and overwhelmed at some point during 2021. Google searches for ‘what is wellness’ jumped by 1,980 per cent since the beginning of 2022.
So, it’s clear the idea of trying to incorporate wellness into our daily routines is something that is foremost in minds at the start of the new year and nearing the end Covid-19 restrictions.
Google Trend data highlights the trends that are set to dominate the health industry. Matt Flanagan from E-Bikes Direct delves into them. Moon bathing – up 9,900%.
In its simplest form, moon bathing is very similar to sunbathing, where you bask in moonlight, either by sitting or lying down outside or by taking a moonlight stroll.
In Salthill howling at the moon while going for a dip has become popular when the moon is full. During the last full moon on Monday, January 17 there were well over 100 swimming at 9pm.
“The practise of moon bathing dates back to some of the oldest written works,” Matt explains. “It used to be prescribed for medicinal purposes, as bathing in moon light can reduce anxiety and stress levels, but also it is thought the moon’s cooling light can reduce extra heat in the body, which can reduce chance of migraines.
“Whether you have outdoor space which offers easy moon bathing, or even if you just have a window which lets in moonlight, anyone can benefit from this practise. “Taking a moment for clarity and meditation is proven to reduce stress levels and offers you the chance to unwind.”
