A Dunmore based company has won a patent case in the U.K.

Stira Folding Attic Stairs, owned by Michael Burke, claimed that the ‘Loft Stairs Company Ltd’, owned by Michael Heraghty and his wife, had infringed a patented process for manufacturing folding attic stairs.

Stira used to do business with Loft Stairs up until about 1996 when the two companies fell out for common business reasons.

However, Michael Burke of Stira later realised that the English company was using a new method of manufacturing the stairs, which HE himself had developed.

In the High Court in London, Judge Peter Prescott concluded that Mr. Heraghty set out to copy the new version of Stira developed by Michael Burke.
