WELL BEING SURVEY IDENTIFIES ISSUES OF CONCERN TO GALWAY RESIDENTS
Date Published: 20-Jul-2009
A health and well being survey has identified the top three issues which would make Galway a better place to live
The issues are reduced traffic, increased safety and increased facilities while the top three health issues are increased physical activity, better diet and quitting smoking
The survey was conducted by the Health Promotion Research Centre at NUI Galway through funding from dormant accounts
shows that two out of five Galway people binge drink once a week or more, one in two people are not satisfied with their level of physical activity and three in four people are trying, planning or thinking about quitting smoking
The survey, which is part of the Galway Health Cities Project, highlighted the fact disadvantaged people are affected the most by the issues of concern
Fiona Donovan, Galway Health Cities co-ordinator says the next important step is to ensure at least the main recommendations of the survey are implemented
