Water supplies will be shut down across the western side of Galway city for 2-3 hours this afternoon for emergency repairs.

Homes and businesses in western suburbs are without water since yesterday following a major leak in a mains pipe supplying Tonabrocky reservoir from the Terryland Waterworks.

It’s affecting areas on higher ground such as Clifden Hill, Tonabrocky, and possibly Taylor’s Hill, as well as Barna and Moycullen

It’s particularly bad for homes and premises on higher ground.

City council officials are asking the public to conserve and minimise water use while they’re trying to isolate and repair the leak.
