Galway must play its role in reducing the number of deaths by drownings here.

That’s according to Irish Water Safety Chief Executive John Leech who published the organisation’s annual report at their Head Office at Long Walk in the city this lunchtime.

The annual report is being presented to Minister of State at the Department of the Environment Michael Finneran around now. (1pm)

The number of drownings in Ireland in 2008 was estimated at 143, 13 fewer drownings than in 2007.
