Water restored to 20,000 homes

RUNNING water was restored to 20,000 people living west of the Corrib on Saturday evening after they were without a supply for almost two days.

Both Galway City and County Councils worked together for the two days to ensure that householders, businesses and high priority users such as University Hospital Galway had an alternative public
water supply.

Mobile water tanks were provided at strategic points in Knocknacarra, Barna and Moycullen as well as other parts of the city centre so people could have access to a water supply.

Yesterday, Ciarán Hayes, Director of Services at Galway City Council, thanked the public for their co-operation and patience, saying they had “very few irate calls” about the whole situation,which left some areas without a running water supply for up to two days.
