Warwick Hotel in Salthill to be sold by ‘sealed bids’
The Warwick Hotel is set to be sold later this month through a sealed ‘best bids’ process.
After several potential deals fell through since the hotel went on the market two-and-a-half years ago, the selling agents have opted for a ‘best and final bids’ process.
It’s understood the guide price for the 33-bedroom is in the region of €850,000 – down from around €2m when it first went on the market.
The most recent potential purchaser of the property is understood to have been interested in developing a primary care health centre.
Other uses that have been considered for the site include a nursing home, hostel or to re-open as a hotel and nightclub.
Colm O’Donnellan of O’Donnellan & Joyce Auctioneers told the Sentinel he expects “strong interest” in the hotel.
“It’s a fantastic site and is open to a wide variety of uses. We have had a number of interested parties come forward with various offers, but none concluded in a sale,” said Mr O’Donnellan.
The bids have to be submitted to Mr O’Donnellan, or to joint agent Sean Coyne of DTZ Sherry Fitzgerald by noon on Friday, October 25.
Owners Dermot and Sandra O’Connor – who bought the hotel from the Keogh family in 1994 for the equivalent of €760,000 – closed the hotel and restaurant in 2009, while the nightclub and bar closed their doors in 2010.
