Met Éireann has warned of rainfall totalling up to 40mm by midday on Saturday, which will lead to flooding in places.

A Status Yellow rain warning has been in place for Galway since midday today (Friday) for a period of 24 hours.

Forecasters expect 25-40mm of rainfall during that period. Rain will continue through the night, heavy at times, although winds will decrease.

The same warning is in place for Mayo, Clare, Limerick, Tipperary and Waterford, while Carlow, Kilkenny, Wexford and Wicklow have the warning in place from 6pm Friday to 6pm Saturday. A warning for Cork and Kerry will see 30-50mm of rainfall, with the highest risk of flooding in the south and west of those counties.
