Warning to expect icy road conditions
Road users in Galway have been warned to expect poor conditions over the coming days, as an icy spell hits the country.
Met Éireann has issued a Status Yellow snow/ice warning for Ireland, with scattered snow showers likely from 5am Friday until midday Saturday, especially for Connacht and Ulster.
A warning is also in place for low temperatures from 11pm tonight (Thursday) until 11am Friday, with a drop to -3°C or -4°C expected. There will be some showers and some sleet and snow overnight, with frost and ice on untreated surfaces.
The AA has issued the following warning: “Remember stopping distances are 10 times longer on snow and ice and gentle maneuvers are the key to safe driving. Use major routes as they are more likely to have been gritted than secondary routes.”
