Newly-elected TD for Galway West, Brian Walsh, said a Fine Gael-led government will prioritise job creation and the stimulation of growth in the economy in the first few months of office.
Speaking to the Galway City Tribune, Deputy-elect Walsh, declared his number one priority now was to focus on fixing the unemployment crisis, a legacy of the Fianna Fáil/Green Party’s administration.
He said he will be particularly focused on assisting small and medium enterprises, which are massive employers in Galway City, and also on getting credit flowing to businesses again.
In relation to local issues, Cllr Walsh said he would continue to work on ensuring the go-ahead of the redevelopment of Galway Harbour – this will create 500 jobs during the construction stages and provide a massive fillip to the local tourism industry once large cruise liners, carrying thousands of visitors, are facilitated at the city port, he said.
Cllr Walsh said objections and a “lack of political will” from the previous government resulted in 14 years of delays to the construction of the Galway City Outer Bypass – he assured constituents that he won’t be lacking in political will to advance the road.
