JUSTICE isn’t always seen to be done on sporting occasions, but at Eamonn Deacy Park on Saturday, a cracking late equaliser by Julie-Ann Russell gave Galway WFC a merited share of the spoils in this Women’s National League contest.

An early Becky Walsh finish gave the home side the perfect start, before the concession of two soft goals in a three minute spell saw them trail at the break, before a resurgent second half display saw the better side finally rewarded with a classic strike.

Of course, Wexford are one of the three top teams in the women’s game, but having beaten them for the first time last year Alan Murphy’s charges showed no fear either on this occasion.

They made the perfect start when Walsh fired them ahead on just three minutes when she got on the end of a Shauna Brennan delivery and finished from close range. The home side never looked to be under any threat until they conceded a Wexfiord goal on 18 minutes.

Ellen Molloy set up Becky Watkins who slotted into the bottom corner to tie up matters at 1-1. The concession of a needless corner set in motion the second shortly afterwards and Kate Thompson’s  challenge in the box resulted in a Wexford penalty that was converted by Kylie Murphy to put them 2-1 up.

Thereafter, the home side looked solid at the back as the visitors rarely threatened, while through the promptions of Julie Ann Russell, Chloe Singleton and Emma Starr,Galway WFC did the majority of the probing.
