Voting brisk around Galway in local and European elections
Galway Bay fm newsroom – Voting has been brisk in the three electoral districts up to lunchtime today.
In the six seater of Galway City East, the polling station at Ballybane Community Centre is reporting a turnout of 13% after a steady flow all day.
In the Galway City Central district which has six seats, the polling station at Mercy Convent on Francis Street is reporting a turnout of about 10% this lunchtime.
In the six seater of Galway City West, turnout at the polling station in St. Nicholas national school in Claddagh is now approaching 20%.
To the county and in Tuam, despite the abolition of the town council, voting in is brisker so far than in previous local elections.
That’s according to some staff working at the towns polling station.
Turnout in Tuam polling stations at lunchtime was around 10 to 17%.
Voting has also been brisk in East Galway so far today, with a turnout of around 14% in both Ballinalsoe and Portumna.
In Connemara, the heaviest voting has been reported from Clifden with a turnout of around 20% by lunchtime.
Voting from other areas in the nine-seater district stands at between 10 and 12%.
