Locals casting their vote at a secondary school in the city were forced to evacuate a part of the building after the floor was deemed ‘unsafe’.

Voting had been underway at a new section of St. Enda’s on Threadneedle road in Salthill when it was stopped by a supervisor.

It’s understood the ground timber boards at the new extension of the school rose up in the middle by about 8 to 10 inches.

A supervisor declared the location unsafe, and voters were moved into the main section of the school.

Returning officer, Marian Chambers-Higgins told Galway Bay FM News that no one was injured in the incident, and voting is continuing at the school.
