Galway Bay fm newsroom – Members of the public who wish to improve health services at Galway’s public hospitals are invited to apply for participation in a new Patient Council.

The volunteer based initiative is being spearheaded by the West/North West Hospital Group as part of a strategic plan for public and patient Involvement.

The aim of the Patient Council is to work closely with staff in the Hospital Group to improve the experience patients have when using services.

It’s being led by Colette Cowan, the Chief Director for Nursing and Midwifery for the Hospital Group who says it’s important that a patient first culture is developed throughout the group.

The Patient Council will assist management in assessing the current quality of service, review policies and procedures and support communication efforts to the wider population.

It will be composed of up to 10 members who will meet every two months to plan and agree improvements.

Management would particularly like to receive applications from people who have had direct contact with hospitals within the group as a patient or relative.

Anyone interested can call 091 544465 before the deadline on Friday 28th February.
