Infection control procedures at Portiuncula Hospital in Ballinasloe are in place for a second weekend following an outbreak of the winter vomiting bug.

The HSE says because of the presence of the norovirus on a number of wards, visiting is restricted.

However, arrangements will be made for family members of critically ill patients to visit and this can be arranged through the nurse on duty in the ward.

Norovirus is a highly contagious bug, and infected people usually experience vomiting or diarrhea or both.
