THE Aftermath, a band Mod⁄pop based around brothers, Johnny and Michael Cronin who hail from Drumlish in Co Longford, will play Monroe’s Live on Friday, January 4.

They have had three top 20 singles and a top 20 album with their debut, Friendlier up here and have also shared the stage with the likes of The Script, Ian Brown, Keane, The Frames and Razorlight. In addition, they have headlined Sweden’s peace & Love festival as well as selling out shows from Dublin to Leeds to Berlin.

Their debut album was recorded in France with Karl and Dave Odlum who have produced The Swell Season, Mundy and The Frames.

Friendlier up here also featured guest appearance from fiddle player Steve Wickham from The Waterboys, keyboardist Helen Turner from The Style Council and the Paul Weller Band, and Vyvienne Long from the Damien Rice band.

It hasn’t all been plain sailing for the Aftermath, however. In 2007 the bus they were travelling in crashed and all four members were lucky to emerge from the accident unscathed.

“We were going to Tullamore for a festival,” Johnny recalls. “There was a lot of water on the road, and some diesel, and we went aquaplaning straight into a wall and we went upside down. We were very, very lucky-thank god for our seat belts. We appreciate being alive!

They are showing that appreciation by producing quality music as fans can see in Monroe’s Live on January 4 Doors 11pm, admission €10
