Vapers still enjoy the hit – but smell like strawberry muffins
A Different View with Dave O’Connell
Vapers were described recently as wannabe seasoned smokers who, on second glace, appear to be inhaling strawberry muffins.
And they do it in a cloud of smoke that looks like the exhaust has given up the ghost on an old Morris Minor.
It would nearly make you long for the old days when hard men sat up on a bar stool, just nodded in the direction of the barman who knew they wanted a pint – and then slapped down their twenty Major on the counter to define their territory and make clear their intentions.
Or the little urchins gasping on a John Player Blue, nearly half the size of their small heads.
Now comes news that the Government is looking at putting a complete ban on disposable vapes – because of the litter they’re causing all over the place.
Minister of State Ossian Smyth said he didn’t have any problem with vaping itself – but it was this self-contained single-use vape that needed to be banned.
Although his quotes would suggest he’s not as happy with the vaping world as he might have suggested:
“The idea that you would buy a product that’s very attractive to children, tastes like bubble gum’ you smoke on it for maybe 50 drags and then it just gets thrown on the ground. It contains valuable materials – lithium-ion battery, electronics, copper, plastic,” he said.
Because the truth is that vapes are to smoking what alcopops are to drinkers – with a small bit of practice, a child could do it, because the taste in both instances is the same as a packet of sweets.
