There is shock and disappointment this week among the artists and
children who took part in creating Tuam’s largest piece of art, which was irrevocably vandalised on Sunday morning.
In the run up to the town’s annual arts festival, Earwig Community Arts Group organised an outreach workshop for 21 local children, between the ages of seven and 17, at which they created the artwork.
This was not just a temporary project though, it was designed to adorn the hoarding surround the site of the new County Council offices on High Street.
“It (construction) was meant to take two years to be completed, so we had it in own minds and told the children to do it well as it would be on display for two years,” said artist, Joanne Hynes, yesterday.
