Vacant Tuam Library to be used by Social Protection Department
Galway bay fm newsroom – The disused former library in Tuam is to become a new office for the Department of Social Protection.
The building at Shop Street has been closed for the past two and a half years.
Local arts groups had been campaigning for the vacant building to be leased for community use.
According to Senator Lorraine Higgins, negotiations are at an advanced stage with the County Council and the Department of Social Protection.
She says she will push for a Social Protection Intreo office to be set up in the old Tuam Library
