Utd’s Chance To Escape Danger Zone

GALWAY United will move out of the relegation zone for the first time this season if they take all three points from UCD in Terryland Park tonight (kick-off 7.45pm) in what is the club’s second relegation six pointer in the space of a week.
Jeff Kenna’s side swatted away the challenge of Finn Harps in Ballybofey last Friday night to join both Harps and UCD on 14 points. Only goal difference separates the sides, with United sandwiched between the other two, so a win tonight will see them move into the safety of ninth and, crucially, deal a psychological blow on a second team involved in the fight against relegation.
Fixtures between the two sides aren’t known for producing a glut of goals, so the first goal will be all important in Terryland. While there is still a complete round of games to go after tonight given the fact that the two sides have managed just seven wins from the 41 games they played this season, either can afford to lose tonight’s game, so the team that falls behind will be forced to come out in search of an equaliser, which will inevitably leave gaps at the back.
“We want to score a few goals, keep a clean sheet and move out of the bottom three. The displays against both Finn Harps and Derry City were very good, but we need to build on them and produce them week after week,” said Kenna.
