Utd remain way out in front after 13th win of campaign
Galway United 2
Wexford FC 0

ANOTHER game, and another one ticked off the to-do list for Galway United as they maintained their 10-point lead at the top of the table with a routine win at home to Wexford FC on Friday.
Apart from a bright opening spell for the visitors, there was very little of concern on the night as the men in yellow came to clearly park the bus, and even when they fell a goal behind, Wexford dragged every one of their players behind the ball, determined not to concede again.
It was only when they fell two behind, and then made a couple changes, that Wexford really offered any menace in the game, but by that stage, the outcome was well decided, with the only notes of disappointment coming in the housekeeping from the game.
Rob Slevin and Stephen Walsh both picked up their fifth bookings of the season, which means they will miss this Friday’s game away to Treaty United through suspension; and to compound a topsy-turvy night for Walsh, he left the pitch thinking he had scored both United goals, only for the officials to take the second one off him after the game and instead put it down as an OG by Wexford goalkeeper, Charlie Heffernan.
Apart from that, it was a decent night’s work for United, though it would be preferable to see the likes of Colm Horgan and Ronan Manning at least sitting on the bench, and not in the stand, as both continue to struggle with injury.
