Utd. Draw Bray After Bohs’ Defeat

IT IS a wild generalisation that has no grounding in scientific fact, but it is often said that people can be divided into one of two categories — those who believe the glass is half full; and those who regard it is half empty.

Those in the former group will have come away from Terryland Park on Friday night feeling Galway United were unlucky not to get something from a game against the league leaders which they dominated for large parts, even when the visitors had a full compliment on the pitch. For those in the latter group, United could still be there in Terryland today, with Bohs long gone home, and they still wouldn’t score.

The truth is probably somewhere in between. Few people expected United to take anything from the game, and when Bohs followed in the footsteps of Bray, Cobh, Shamrock Rovers, Derry City, UCD and Athlone Town in taking a lead against United inside 10 minutes, many feared a rout was on the cards. Instead United rallied well, dominated the remainder of the half and looked like they could get something from the game, only to be hit by a sucker punch four minutes before half time which effectively ended the game as a contest.
