US software company’s speedy expansion is good news for Galway jobs

Two years after dipping its toes in the Corrib, a US computer software company is giving its seal of approval to its first multinational operations base by creating a further 30 jobs at the Galway plant.

Synchronoss Technologies is a global provider of software designed to manage and synchronise online data transfer. The company which is headquartered in Bridgewater, New Jersey, established a production and research and development (R&D) centre at the Parkmore Business Park on the outskirts of Galway city exactly two years ago, creating 24 jobs.

At the time it was the first tangible result from a number of visits by multinationals scouting for suitable bases. This week Synchronoss announced that it will be recruiting 30 additional workers that are needed immediately over the next three months. The positions will be in the areas of research and development, quality assurance and service delivery.

The original positions at the centre – its first operations plant outside the US – were in software developers and telecommunications engineers.

At the time the company said it chose Galway over other European locations because of the talent pool, the ease of doing business and the welcoming environment which had attracted ICT companies such as Cisco and Avaya.

Stephen G. Waldis, chairman, CEO and president of Synchronoss Technologies stated: “The market for connected devices and cloud solutions is exploding and our business must keep pace with industry dynamics. Our R&D efforts are critical to our success and we need to continue hiring innovative and creative minds across the globe.”

Catherina Blewitt, west regional manager for the IDA, said the move was a big vote of confidence for Galway as a location for the burgeoning ICT cluster.

“The days of the big job announcements are gone. Companies test the water to see its success first. It’s a great vote of confidence for Galway that they keep expanding,” she told the Connacht Tribune.
