US death crash mum to be buried in Galway
Date Published: 18-Jun-2009
THREE heartbroken members of the well known Coleman family from Abbeyknockmoy are in the United States making arrangements to have the body of their dead sister and her husband flown home following a horrific accident last Sunday.
Tragic Anne Coleman (44) and her husband Joe O’Connell (50) lost their lives when the people carrier that was driven by their sixteen year old daughter Sarah lost control and flipped over twice.
All of the occupants were thrown from the vehicle apart from Sarah who was said by police to be the only one wearing a seat belt.
Since the tragedy, hundreds of people have been comforting the popular Coleman family who have contributed enormously to the sporting life of County Galway over the years.
And it is the second tragedy to hit the Abbeyknockmoy community over the past year when 24 year old Natalie Higgins drowned when she was swept out to sea while on charity work in Ghana.
Earlier in the week former county hurling midfielder Michael Coleman along with his brother Jarlath and sister Bridie flew to Chicago where they were met by members of the local Irish community and were briefed by police.
They are hoping to have both bodies returned by the weekend so that funeral arrangements can be made.
