Portumna's Joe Canning and Oughterard's Matthew Tierney who will both feature in TG4's coverage of upcoming games in the Galway senior hurling and football championships.

WITH crowds restricted to little more than 350 – excluding players, mentors, officials and stewards – for the opening rounds of the Galway senior hurling and football championships, supporters have been handed unexpected access to two of the bigger fixtures.

TG4 – a channel which does so much to promote the club championships -– has unveiled plans to televise club games over the coming weeks, and the action from Galway will be at the centre of its coverage.

The Irish language station has committed to a deferred showing of Portumna and Sarsflelds at Kenny Park in the first round of the Galway hurling championship on Sunday week.

And in a major publicity boost for the local football title race, TG4 will provide live coverage of the ‘clash of champions’ between senior kingpins Corofin and last year’s All-Ireland intermediate winners, Oughterard, at Pearse Stadium (2.15pm) on Sunday fortnight, August 2.

In a further boost for fans who are denied access to matches due to crowd restrictions, Galway GAA plans to stream live a number of matches from both the senior hurling and football championships.
