Business communications technology giant, Avaya, will announce the creation of between 50 and 70 new high-tech jobs at its city base early next week, the Galway City Tribune has learned.

The company is expanding its operation in Galway with the official launch of its Customer Experience Centre at Mervue Business Park on Tuesday.

Recruitment for this new Research and Development operation is already underway and all posts are expected to be filled by the year-end.

A spokesperson for the company would not be drawn on the exact number of new posts to be created in Galway other to say that “a significant announcement” will be made by Seán Sherlock, Junior Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation, on Tuesday morning.

But the Galway City Tribune has established that well over 50 jobs will be announced and possibly as many as 70.

The positions are all Information Technology related and ‘high-end’ posts related to the IDA’s drive to create jobs in the ‘Smart Economy’ – the company is recruiting software engineers, developers, programmers and managers.

Avaya, a global leader in enterprise communications systems, software and services already employs at least 275 people in Galway, at its operations in Salthill and Mervue.

Three senior executives at Avaya – Jason Flynn, County Manager, Ireland; Michael Bayer, President of Avaya EMEA; Onkar Singh Birk, general manager, Contact Center Solutions Division, Avaya – will attend Tuesday’s launch along with Barry O’Leary, IDA CEO and the Junior Minister Sherlock.

Avaya is one of the world leaders in enterprise communications system development and provision, and employs around 20,000 people worldwide.
