United pushed towards exit

THE hangman’s noose has been put in place, all that is left now is to pull the lever on the trapdoor to send Galway United plummeting back down to the football wasteland that is the First Division.
Of course there is always time for the late phonecall to say it was all a mistake, but it looks less and less likely after Jeff Kenna’s side fell to yet another defeat on Friday night, and, with Finn Harps beating Bray Wanderers, the gap to safety has stretched to seven points.
Drogheda were all flowing locks and fancy flicks on Friday night, but their play had as much substance as a bag of air. However United only really started playing in the last five minutes, affording the league champions far too much respect up to that point, and despite Kenna saying after the game that both he and his squad firmly believe United can dig themselves out of the hole they find themselves in, it is becoming increasingly difficult to see just how they can.
