Galway United have received a major boost for the 2008 season with the news on Tuesday that winger Derek O’Brien has re-signed for the club.
O’Brien was one of 16 United players whose contracts expired upon the final whistle in their league match against UCD last weekend.
With rumours of other clubs interested in signing him — particularly Derry City — there were fears that United would struggle to retain his services.
However the club’s Player of the Year for 2007 has put his scribble on the dotted line of the new contract and will be remaining with United.
He was one of the club’s longest serving players, along with Alan Murphy, but while O’Brien will grace the Terryland turf next season,Murphy will be plying his trade elsewhere.
