THE feet of the Galway United players are firmly planted on the ground, with no-one in the squad getting carried away despite matching a club record of seven successive wins last Friday when claiming all three points at home to Athlone Town.

Such is the focus within the squad of taking it one game at a time, club captain Conor McCormack was not even aware that he had led the side to that history-equalling run of seven straight wins.

“Oh I didn’t know that,” he says when asked about his pride in leading the side on that impressive run of results. “It is great, it is a great credit to John, he has assembled this team, and the supporters come in every week and get behind us. We are in a good bit of form at the minute, but we have to take things one game at a time.”

They get their chance to create a new club record this Friday when they host Cork City in a top-of-the-table clash in Eamonn Deacy Park (7.45pm), but McCormack insists that he and the players will treat it as just another game.

“I suppose every game is a massive game. Cork are going to come up and try to beat us, to get one back on us because we beat them earlier in the season, but we’ll be ready for them, we’ll watch their game back and well come up with a plan that will hopefully see us get the three points.
