Unique Limmy brings comedy show to Galway

Scottish comedian and internet sensation Limmy, has added a Galway date to his upcoming summer tour.

Limmy (real name Brian Limond) will embark on a tour of the UK and Ireland in support of his second book of short-stories, That’s Your Lot, which will be released in early May.

Limmy is something of a cult figure in the United Kingdom; though that is probably a description which he would find uncomfortable. Born in Glasgow, he gained popularity for his blog writing in the early stages of his career. Then his hometown became the focus of his comedy when, in 2006, his podcast Limmy’s World of Glasgow first appeared online.

In 2009, BBC Scotland hired Limond to produce a TV sketch show, and early the following year, the first season of Limmy’s Show! went to air. It saw Limond portray a variety of curious characters, including  the spaced-out layabout ‘Dee-Dee’, who spends his time doing absolutely nothing, while over-analysing the trivial events of his life; ‘Falconhoof’, the patient, costumed-wearing host of a live televised fantasy call-in show, which seems only to be contacted by down-on-their-luck Glaswegians; and ‘Raymond Day’, a TV psychic-medium who only ever gives people bad news about their loved ones.

Like his stand-up and writing, most of the show’s sketches are rooted in an observational comedic style. Limond frequently appears as himself on the show, and in these moments, he usually breaks the fourth wall and urges the audience to consider the reasoning behind certain social conventions.

But other sketches on Limmy’s Show! are surreal, dark and often downright bizarre, and they must be seen to be truly appreciated.
