Unique ‘In Flow’ returns for one performance
In Flow, a unique, immersive performance fusing electronic music, gamelan percussion and visuals, will be staged at Nuns Island Arts Centre this Friday night, June 10, having had two sell-out shows at the venue in December.
In Flow was also performed in Castlebar in May and will be staged at Ennis Arts Festival next month.
The show brings together people with intellectual disability and local musicians to perform high-quality music using traditional instruments from Bali and Java.
In Flow, which was composed and performed by That’s Life Players in collaboration with Andrew Madec and Aengus Hackett, brings the audience through a soundscape of electronically processed percussion gamelan samples, fusing them with a live ensemble to create original, inspiring work
Andrew previously explored gamelan in a non-traditional context with the release of Gamelan Reimaginings. He’s continuing on this path, this time in an arts and disability context, by collaborating with That’s Life players, a group from the award-winning Brothers of Charity programme.
Together, they have evolved new and inclusive ways of composing for gamelan and electronics.
The group have already been invited to discuss the project at Cambridge and to perform in London.
Last December’s original work has been further developed for this Friday’s performance. In addition, Oxford gamelan expert, Peter Smith, will join the ensemble for the show.
