UNIONS FOR ACC STAFF REJECT LAY OFF PLAN
Date Published: 02-Jun-2009
Unions representing staff at ACC bank have rejected a proposal that all staff be laid off and made re-apply for two-thirds of their old jobs.
ACC announced last month that it plans to cut 200 jobs and close 16 branches, including its branch at Shop Street in Tuam.
The job losses at ACC are expected to begin next month.
Trade unions UNITE and SIPTU want a voluntary redundancy scheme with at least 7 weeks pay per year of service.
However ACC wants to lay off all 660 staff and make them re-apply for 460 jobs.
Meetings are due to take place this week between unions and staff to discuss the job cuts.
