Unemployment numbers up slightly in Galway

Galway Bay fm newsroom – Unemployment in Galway increased slightly last month, according to the latest figures from the Central Statistics Office.

There were 20,399 people out of work in the city and county at the end of January, an increase of 9 on the previous month.

The biggest increase in unemployment last month was in the city, where an extra 35 people joined the Live Register.

The city now has an unemployed figure of just over ten thousand one hundred.

The biggest increase in the county was in Loughrea, where 11 more people signed on.

The unemployment figure for Loughrea at the end of February was two thousand 240.

In Clifden, one more person joined the Live register last month, bringing Clifden’s jobless figure to 1,215.

There biggest decrease was in Gort, where 21 people came off the live register last month.

Gort’s unemployment figure now stands at 1,404.

In Ballinasloe, ten people came off the register in february, leaving it’s jobless figure at 2,381.

Tuam’s jobless figure decreased by 7 last month, and now stands at 3,048.

This is the third consecutive increase in unemployment in Galway in the past few months.

There are now almost 20 thousand 400 people out of work here, a decrease of over 10% on the same period last year.
