Unbeaten United still lead the way

A POINT gained or two points dropped? The truth lies somewhere in between, but Ian Foster will be adamant this week that it was a case of the former as Galway United extended their unbeaten run in the Carlisle Grounds on Friday night to remain top of the Premier Division, albeit only on goal difference from Bohemians and Derry City.
It was a game United should have won but came very close to losing in injury time, Barry Ryan pulling off a great save from Gary McCabe’s second penalty on the night as United self-imploded in the last 20 minutes of a game they had looked odds-on to win.
Foster is in his first stint as a manager and so is allowed a bit of leeway in the learning stakes, but after Friday night he will surely think twice the next time he decides to remove two defensive midfielders as United look to hold on to a win, especially away from home.
Neither Sean Kelly nor Michael McGrath were setting the world on fire on Friday night, but they were providing enough of a buffer to keep Bray at bay, even if the home side were ratcheting up the pressure. True, one of Foster’s subs could have wrapped up the points three minutes after his introduction, but Shane Fitzgerald delayed his shot, allowing Bray to hack clear.
