University Hospital Galway is planning to build a temporary car park.

The Health Service Executive West is seeking permission from city planners to build 146 car spaces at the western end of the UHG campus next to the Paediatric unit.

The planned temporary car park will be just over half a hectare in size.

Access to the car park will be from a proposed internal ring road in the hospital grounds on Newcastle Road in the city.

City planners are still considering a separate application for the ring road.

The ultimate parking solution at UHG is to provide 900 car parking spaces in a multi-storey car park, allowing 300 existing spaces to be taken out of use to release land for new buildings.
