UHG helicopter landing pad set to stay in operation

The temporary helicopter landing pad at Shantalla will continue to be in use until the end of March.

The HSE is still engaged in massive building works on the University Hospital Galway grounds adjacent to the Galway City Council lands at Shantalla.

City councillors have been told that the temporary helicopter pad on Council lands off the Séamus Quirke Road will continue for some time, at least until the end of next month.

Once the building work is completed at the hospital, the helicopter pad will revert to a new and permanent location on the UHG grounds.

The HSE had originally got a six month temporary permission from the Council to use its lands at Shantalla in June 2014 but building works on the hospital campus had run into contractual difficulties due to unforeseen circumstances.
