UHG DOCTOR IN COURT OVER ALLEGED SEXUAL ASSAULT OF PATIENT

A doctor, charged with the alleged sexual assault of a female patient at University Hospital Galway has been remanded in custody, with consent to bail.

The man who is aged in his 40s, and who can’t be named for legal reasons, appeared before Galway District Court.

The doctor is charged with the alleged sexual assault of a woman at University Hospital Galway in May of this year.

He was suspended pending the outcome of an investigation by his employers.

The court heard evidence from Garda Orla Keenan that when charged the defendant replied "I’m sorry for that miscommunication between me and the patient. I apologise for this misunderstanding".

He’s to appear before Harristown District Court again on Friday.
