A senior clinician at University Hospital Galway says the hospital and HSE West is under-resourced in comparison with hospitals in Dublin.

UHG has 39 thousand admissions and discharges annually making it one of the busiest hospitals in the country.

Clinician, Oliver McAnena says that despite this, the Galway hospital does not receive the resources it deserves.

The comments come in light of controversy this week over severe overcrowding in the A&E department.

Mayor of Galway publicly described the chaos in the casualty department as a “hell-hole”.

However Oliver McAnena says the hospital is operating as best it can with the resources it has.
