U14 girls prepare for All-Ireland
Date Published: 02-Aug-2007
GALWAY U-14 girls footballers make their bid for All-Ireland glory when they face Dublin in the final at Pearse Park, Longford on Sunday (3pm).
Looking to become the first Galway U-14 side to win this championship, they have all the credentials to achieve such a feat even if Dublin will provide a stern test. Certainly, they have been impressive to date, defeating Roscommon, Sligo, Leitrim and Mayo in their successful Connacht championship campaign, before accounting for Laois in the quarter-final.
That was a tough battle, but the Galway girls — captained by Annaghdown’s Claire Delaney — delivered a storming second half performance to seal the victory. In the semi-final, they faced a strong Kerry side that had won the Munster championship in style. Yet the girls against showed their true colours with an outstanding display, winning through on a scoreline of 5-10 to 1-8.
Meanwhile, the Galway panel that will take to the field on Sunday is as follows: C. Delaney, C. Killilea, A. Burke, R. Murphy (Annaghdown); L. Reilly (Caherlistrane); A. Mannion (Caltra); D.
