Tynagh farmer one of 12 finalists in National Dairy Council quality awards for milk
A YOUNG Tynagh farmer is one of 12 finalists selected nationwide to contest the finals of the National Dairy Council and Kerrygold Quality Milk Awards – referred to as ‘the Oscars’ of the dairy world.
Conor O’Brien from Kilmurry, Tynagh, along with his dad Vincent, milk 130 high EBI (economic breeding index) Holstein Friesian cows with the help of full-time farm worker, Ivor Glennon.
Between their original holding, land they purchased, and rented land, the O’Briens now farm 250 acres and also invested in a multi-hundred-thousand state of the art milking parlour.
Twelve co-ops around the country were allowed one nomination to contest the final with the O’Briens getting the nod from 1,200 milk suppliers to Arrabawn.
“I’m not saying we’re going to win it, but it’s a great honour to get the nomination from Arrabawn and we’re very happy with the way our enterprise has turned out,” Conor O’Brien told the Farming Tribune.
