A 39 year old Claregalway woman has been sentenced to two years in prison for a dangerous driving incident in which a man was killed almost 3 years ago.

Marie Melia pleaded guilty last May to driving in a dangerous manner which included speed and caused the death of 65 year old single man Patrick Lynch at Drumgriffin near Corrandulla on August 3rd 2008.

Insp Roche told Judge Groarke that the victim had moved into the verge to avoid the car but was still hit and flung 20 metres away from the point of impact.

A post mortem examination revealed Mr Lynch suffered a twisted spine and all the bones in his leg were broken.

He was found some six hours later and died at the scene.
