TWO REMANDED ON BAIL OVER CRIMINAL DAMAGE AT FORMER OCCUPY SITE
Date Published: 27-Jun-2012
The case of two men charged with alleged criminal damage at the former Occupy Galway site has been deferred until October.
26 year old Chris Duignan with an address at 22 St. Cormac’s Park, Kilcormac, County Offaly appeared before Galway District Court today [Jun 27] while 19 year old Mark McKenna with a former address at 158 Laurel Park in Newcastle in the city was absent in court.
Both men are charged with alleged criminal damage at the former Occupy camp at Kennedy Park in Eyre Square on Thursday May 17th.
Garda Inspector Sean Glynn said instructions from the DPP are not yet available.
He requested a short adjournment and indicated that although the matter is still under investigation, it may not ‘trouble the court’.
A defence Barrister for both accused explained that the solicitor has been unable to contact Mark McKenna and it’s understood he has moved away from Galway.
A fresh application for legal aid for both was also made but was refused by Judge Mary Fahy who stressed that she had still reserved on that decision.
Garda Inspector Sean Glynn made no application for a bench warrant for the absent defendant in the circumstances.
Judge Mary Fahy remanded both on continuing bail to appear before Galway District Court again on 15th October.
