TWO PEOPLE INJURED IN SALTHILL CRASH

TWO people were injured and taken by ambulance to University Hospital Galway following a crash involving a car, a motor cycle and a pedestrian at Salthill this afternoon.
The two people hospitalised were a man who was the motorcyclist, and a woman pedestrian.
The crash happened a short distance past the entrance to the Galway Bay Hotel at approximately 3 pm.
The injuries sustained, by the two people who were hospitalised, are understood not to be life threatening. The driver of the car was traumatised but did not suffer injuries.
Salthill Gardai, two units of Galway Fire Brigade, ambulances and medical personell were quickly on the scene.
The rescue helicopter was also alerted and it hovered over the scene for some time but its services were not needed as the amulances removed the injured to hospital.
Gardai had to close a section of the road from past the entrance to The Galway Bay Hotel to Ocean Towers and traffic was diverted via the road beside Leisureland and Threadneedle Road.
This was to enable the Gardai to carry out a forensic examination of the scene after the two vehicles involved in the crash were removed. The road has since reopened.
