The long awaited commercial broadband for Tuam could be one step closer if funding is granted of over two million euro in an EU scheme for ‘hub’ towns.

Tuam Town Council was told by Brian Barrett of Galway County Council that 750,000 Euro of the funds would be for broadband ducting and cabling.

The Co. Council official was responding to a question by Cllr Imelda Kelly and he said this sum would cover almost half the cost of broadband.

But Director of Services Frank Gilmore added that the Co. Council was not in the business of supplying broadband but in providing the infrastrusture, such as the ducting, for it.
